Don Bosco Durai who is the founding member of the project Apache Ranger will do a quick show and tell on how to do fine grain authorization using Apache Ranger in PrestoDB.
Apache Ranger has been the user’s choice to support authorization in various data platforms from small-scale to enterprise-grade production environments. At Ahana, engineers are working on the Presto-Ranger integration, aiming to support global fine-grained data access control across all catalogs for Presto, while also providing auditing and monitoring of user access. We would like to collaborate with the Privacera and share our learnings, what we developed so far, and also hope to shed light on the future work of the Ranger Presto Plugin with Apache Ranger committer.
Presto has been widely used at Bytedance in several ways such as in the data warehouse, BI tools, ads etc. And, the Presto team at Bytedance has also delivered many key features and optimizations such as the Hive UDF wrapper, coordinator, runtime filter and so on which extend Presto usages and enhance Presto stabilities. Nowadays, most companies will use both Hive (or Spark) and Presto together. But Presto UDFs have very different syntax and internal mechanisms compared with Hive UDFs. This restricts Presto usage while users need to maintain 2 kinds of functions. In this talk, we will present a way to execute Hive UDF/UDAF inside Presto.
