Virtual Lab
Presto C++ in Action: Hands-on Benchmarking
Wednesday, Sept. 24 | 9:30am PT on Zoom
Presto C++ is the next-generation Presto engine, built on Velox, an open-source, C++-based acceleration library for data processing. By replacing Java workers in Presto clusters with a native C++ execution engine, it delivers improved performance, reduced latency, and a modern architecture for analytics at scale.
In this workshop, we’ll walk through:
- Why Presto C++ was built and how it fits into the Presto ecosystem
- The architecture and performance benefits of a C++-based query engine
- The project’s current roadmap and how to get involved in the open-source community
Then we’ll get hands-on:
- Deploy Presto C++ locally with Docker
- Run and compare benchmarks against Presto Java using the open-source
pbenchtool - Interpret the results and understand when to use each engine
By the end, you’ll know how to deploy Presto C++, run real benchmarks, and evaluate its performance for your workloads.
Course outline:
- Introduction & Overview of Presto C++
- Deploying a Presto C++ cluster with Docker
- Running Presto C++ vs Presto Java benchmarks with
pbench - Reviewing results and next steps
